Portable Appliance Testing

Portable appliance testing this  April WBEG meeting: Now is the time to get your all your portable appliances PAT tested at the member’s rate of £1.50 (£2.00 for non-members) Please label each item with your name and a number 1,2,3 etc of the importance of the item. This will ensure that your most important items do get tested. Thanks to Chris Baldwin for managing this special membership perk.

Traveling books:

Just a reminder as to what the Travelling Books are about. Bring them to the April meeting for exchange.

The basics of the idea are as follows: within a branch, small groups of branch members join together to produce a unique book for each member of the group. The books created by the group are called "Travelling Books" simply because they travel around the group. Each member of the group makes a unique contribution to the book circulated by each member. The result is always very special - a book each participating member keeps a the end of the journey and often shares with others for pleasure and inspiration.

For the project to work successfully we all need to use the following guidelines taken from the EG website:

1.   Each person identifies their book; this might be a cover design and /or title page. On the inside back cover include your name, email and your full postal address.

2.    Each person starts their book with a signature piece of work: the piece should be no more than A5 but can be smaller. The piece can be in any medium or technique and does not have to be finished as it might be of a more experimental nature. The embroidery is always attached to the right hand page and on the left is some contextual information. This could be a written explanation, a photograph of your inspiration, notes, drawings, whatever you want to put in.

3.  Each month pass your book to the next person in your group and you will receive a book from someone else in your group. If you won't be at the meeting arrange to give it to someone else to bring in on your behalf or make an arrangement with the person. It is important not to interrupt the flow.

4.  Each person then has a month in which to create a piece of work for the book that has been passed to them. It doesn't have to be a new piece each time as the book is passed onto a different person.
